Graham Holdings Co. operates as a education and media company. It provides educational services to individuals, schools and businesses through its subsidiary, Kaplan, Inc. The firm programs include higher education, test preparation, language instruction and professional training. Its media operations consist of the ownership and operation of cable television systems, newspaper publishing and television broadcasting. The company operates through the followings segments: Kaplan Higher Education, Kaplan Test Preparation and Kaplan International. The Kaplan Higher Education segment includes Kaplan's postsecondary education businesses, made up of fixed-facility colleges as well as online postsecondary and career programs. The Kaplan Test Preparation segment includes Kaplan's standardized test preparation and tutoring offerings. The Kaplan International segment includes professional training and postsecondary education businesses outside the U.S. as well as English language programs. Graham Holdings was founded by Stilson Hutchins in 1877 and is headquartered in Arlington, VA.
