Federal officials say Boeing has completed little of the work necessary to certify new versions of its 737 Max jetliner by a year-end deadline, and the aircraft maker is lobbying Congress for more time. If the Federal Aviation Administration does not certify the planes by year end, Boeing would be required under a 2020 law to add a new type of system to alert pilots when there is a potential safety problem with the flight. Boeing wants to avoid adding the crew-alerting system, which would further delay approval of the new Max 7 and Max 10 jets. The company argues that the system doesn''t exist on older 737s, and putting it on future Max jets would add complexity for pilots. An FAA official said in a letter to Boeing that as of mid-September, the FAA had accepted less than 10% of Boeing''s safety assessments on the new planes, another 70% of assessments were undergoing review or changes, and in some cases, the company had failed even to submit necessary documents. Many of these docume

On September 29, 1990, the YF-22 demonstration aircraft took off for the first time. The YF-22 would become the F-22, a dominant air-superiority stealth fighter for nearly 30 years. Now the F-22''s future is in doubt, with Congress and the US Air Force at odds about its retirement. On September 29, 1990, a unique aircraft took off for the first time in Palmdale, California. During its 18-minute flight, it reached a speed of about 290 mph and a height of 12,500 feet before landing at Edwards Air Force Base. The aircraft was the YF-22, the test demonstrator for what would become the F-22 Raptor stealth fighter. It was the second model of the US Air Force''s Advanced Tactical Fighter program to take to the skies, with the test itself the culmination of a nearly 50-month demonstration and validation phase. Thirty-two years later, the F-22 has proven itself as an air-superiority fighter and inspired and informed the development of other fifth-generation fighter aircraft. Despite its accomplishments and reputation, Congress and the US Air Force are at odds over the future of one of the deadliest aircraft ever to take to the skies. It may not occur to investors to look for blue-chip sleeper stocks, since they don’t often think of blue-chips as “sleepers.” In tough times, seasoned investors seek comfort in the stability and safety that well-established robust companies can offer. Blue-chip businesses generate consistent earnings thanks to their vast resources, resilient business models, and strong brands. In addition, such businesses boast impressive track records of delivering strong returns over the long term, including consistent and growing dividend payments. In an environment where the benchmark S&P 500 index has lost a quarter of its value year to date, the market now offers a range of undervalued blue-chip stocks. Clearly, some of these businesses have been unfairly punished by the jittery market sentiment. Put another way, the recent decline in valuations of some of the leading blue-chip stocks represents a compelling buying opportunity for patient, long-term investors. These stocks are primed to provide robust capital returns when market sentiment reverses.

It’s a bear market, and virtually all stocks are trending downward. But some are holding up better than others, and the Dow Jones Industrial Index stocks are one of the stronger groups. Through Sept. 26, the Dow Jones was down 20% for the year. That’s not great, of course. But it’s well ahead of the S&P 500 which is down 24% and the Nasdaq , which has sunk 31% over the same period. The Dow skews much more than other indexes towards so-called “old economy” stocks that are in more staid industries. That’s not always a plus, but it has served the index well in 2022 as the Dow stocks have managed to avoid the same extent of selling that we’ve seen in more growth-focused indexes. Here are seven Dow stocks to buy that will enable investors to cash in on this change in market sentiment. Although arguably most folks hate the political season due to the back-and-forth mudslinging that materializes, investors will want to pay close attention to the 2022 midterm elections. According to historical data, the midterms broadly kick off superior market performance. Per U.S. Bank’s wealth management arm, “When the analysts looked at data around midterm elections (elections held in between presidential elections), they found that the S&P 500 consistently outperformed in the year after midterms compared with non-midterm years. Just like presidential elections, which party controls Congress generally was not a factor in projecting overall equity market performance.” Also, on a historical note, U.C. Santa Barbara notes that rarely does the sitting president’s party gain seats in both houses of Congress. Therefore, the narrative suggests that Republicans may have a big day for the upcoming 2022 midterm elections. In addition, stocks widely may swing higher. If this circumstance pans out – and please be aware no guarantee exists – then specific stocks just might outperform others.

Rising operating costs in the aviation eco- system is forcing carriers to adopt medium range/fuel efficient airplanes. The move, experts told The Nation, is part of the strategies by operators to survive increasing costs of aviation fuel, aircraft maintenance and spares and agitation by aeronautical agencies to jack up airport, air navigation, ground handling and other charges. Among the fuel-efficient airplanes attracting the attention of local carriers include Propeller ATR, Dash 8 Q400, Bombardier CRJ and Embraer regional jets. Investigations by T he Nation show that even start-up carriers, including Value Jets Airlines, which secured an Air Operating Certificate (AOC), from the Nigerian Civil Aviation (NCAA), a few days ago parades three Bombardier jets positioned at the tarmac of the Lagos Domestic terminal primed for scheduled flights. Operators that have devised the new strategy include Green Africa Airways, AeroContractors Airlines, which acquired DASH8 Q400 from a chartered company and Overland Airways, which is pushing for a heterogeneous fleet of propeller ATR and Embraer jets it is expecting.

Mumbai, September 21 Aviation safety regulator DGCA has extended the cap on SpiceJet flights by a little over one month as a matter of "abundant caution", according to an official order on Wednesday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had on July 27 ordered SpiceJet to operate a maximum of 50 per cent of its flights, which were approved in the summer schedule for a period of eight weeks owing to a series of incidents involving its flights. "…the review has indicated that there is an appreciable reduction in the number of safety incidents. McDonald''s CEO Warns That More Companies Will Leave Crime Ridden Chicago McDonald''s CEO Chris Kempczinski says exploding crime has made his employees feel unsafe to go to work and has made it impossible to hire new talent for the company''s Chicago offices. The Illinois city has seen over 494 homicides so far in 2022, which is at least 100 more deaths that it saw in the first 8 months of 2019. Burglary is up at least 36% and theft overall is up 70% from a year ago. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is likely a large part of the problem. A notorious proponent of social justice ideology, Lightfoot vowed to crack down on anti-covid lockdown protesters but refused to do the same with BLM looting and rioting. Under her leadership Chicago has spiraled out of control. Lightfoot recently lauded a minor drop in homicides this year while ignoring the fact that deaths skyrocketed in 2020 and 2021, making the recent small decline far less meaningful. Lightfoot called for defunding Chicago police by $80 million in 2020, only to then beg for federal law enforcement assistance in 2021.
U.S. stocks have continued to slip as Wall Street prepares for another rate hike from the Federal Reserve. After wobbling between small gains and losses throughout the trading session, the S&P 500 closed higher 0.7% on Monday. The benchmark stock index was coming off one of its worst weeks of the year, when it fell nearly 5%. The reality is it has been a volatile summer of trading. The stock market rally proved short-lived as investors lost hope that the economy would look better in the coming months. One driver for the grim mood was last week’s Consumer Price Index ( CPI ), which showed inflation was higher than expected. Consumer prices rose 8.3% year-over-year in August, down from 8.5% over in July but above the 8.1% economists expected. We talked more about this and the effect this will have on the Fed in last Tuesday’s Market 360 issue . It’s important that you begin adjusting your portfolio to make sure that you’re invested in fundamentally superior companies – companies with strong sales and earnings growth and positive outlooks – as these will be the go-to names for investors once third-quarter earnings season gets underway.
