Pompano Beach (Fla.) Police & Firefighters'' Retirement System hired Martin Currie to manage about $14 million in active emerging markets equities. The $275 million pension fund''s board approved the manager hire at its June 21 meeting, recently released meeting minutes show. The pension fund conducted a shortlist search for an emerging markets equity manager following the redemption of its hedge fund-of-funds investment with Pine Grove Asset Management. The reason for the redemption was not provided in the minutes. Lazard Asset Management was the other finalist. As of March 31, the pension fund did not have an allocation to emerging markets equities, according to its most recent available investment report. As of that date, the pension fund had two active international developed markets equity portfolios: a $22 million growth portfolio managed by Renaissance Investment Management and a $21 million portfolio managed by Lazard. Investment consultant Graystone Consulting assisted. Debra Tocarchick, executive director, did not reply to requests for further information.
Joanne Choi was named managing director and chief marketing officer at Lazard Asset Management .
Houlihan Lokey Offering Junior Employees Five Night Caribbean Vacation In Bid To Retain Young Talent We have been documenting the steps that numerous investment banking firms have been taking (or, in Goldman''s case, not taking) to try and retain their junior bankers amidst an environment where many employees are complaining about their work life balance. The latest in the line of "perks" that we have been pointing out comes from Houlihan Lokey Inc., who gave some of its employees a five night stay at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion in the Caribbean. As Bloomberg notes , the vacation "represents a silent plea to the companys junior employees: Please dont quit." And that has been the ethos of late, with junior bankers apparently wielding all of the power as one investment bank after the next capitulates to the idea that junior bankers are being overworked and underpaid. Dan Miller of True Search Recruitment said: Is it the best time to be a banker in terms of making money? Sure. Is it a horrible time in terms of lifestyle?
