Ferrari driver Charles LeClerc has clinched pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc will start from pole position in the Singapore Grand Prix tomorrow, Sunday, October 2. He drove his Ferrari to a stunning fastest lap around the Marina Bay street circuit this evening, Saturday 1. It is his second consecutive pole and the ninth of the season. “It was really, really special. Every qualifying in street tracks is super on the limit and even more like that when it is damp. But it worked well”, said the Frenchman after the session. Red Bull’s reigning world champion Max Verstappen looked to be heading for that front-row spot, but a disaster over his car’s fuel supply resulted in the Dutchman finishing in eighth place. On the penultimate lap of today’s Q3 session, he received a message via the team radio instructing him to pit urgently. “I don’t get it. What are you saying?”, Verstappen was heard saying. FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Volkswagen was nearing the finish line Wednesday as it readied the sale of shares in luxury carmaker Porsche ahead of an expected market listing that will rank among the largest such offerings in European history. The German automaker estimates the deal could reap as much as 9.5 billion euros ($9.08 billion) that it can use for its push into software, services and electric and autonomous vehicles in line with the shifting focus of the global auto industry. Volkswagen on Wednesday was expected to complete the process of lining up investors and determining the final share price, which requires a decision of its board of directors, before the listing Thursday. The deal enables Volkswagen to tap into investor interest in Porsche, whose fat profit margins of 15% to 20% on vehicles like the 911 sports car and Cayenne SUV are far above the single-digit profits common to mass-market automobiles. The proceeds will help pay for Volkswagen’s “massive” investments in revamping factories and research and development, said Christian Stadler, professor of strategic management at Warwick Business School. “They need money, and electrification is super expensive,” Stadler said. “And when we look ahead, it’s getting more and more expensive to simply borrow money” as interest rates rise.

MILAN (AP) — Milan Fashion Week closed Sunday after five days of mostly womenswear previews that celebrated diversity and renewal, with more designers of color represented than ever and a host of new talent making their debuts at major fashion houses. The Italian fashion council was also putting the spotlight on sustainability with the return of the Green Carpet awards Sunday night recognizing progress in practices that reduce waste in the industry and its carbon footprint. Even while the fashion world was putting the spotlight on sustainability, this season’s calendar presented unsustainable trajectories between shows, forcing the fashion crowd to travel back and forth, multiple times in one day, in an already gridlocked city. Even biking proved a challenge with few bike lanes on the routes. Some highlights from Sunday, the closing day of Milan Fashion Week: REMAKING BENETTON FROM THE KNITWEAR UP Benetton is embarking on yet another remake, this time under the creative direction of Andrea Incontri, a Milan designer with experience at a host of fashion houses, including Tod’s.

Today we will discuss three car stocks to buy as the North American International Auto Show returns to Detroit after a three-year absence. Although it was a smaller event than in previous years, Wall Street was eager to see which automakers were driving in the fast lane. In 2021, car sales metrics in the U.S. were strong. U.S. car sales approached 15 million , coming behind China with about 21.5 million. That said, automakers have dealt with several challenges so far this year. For starters, the semiconductor shortage coupled with rising commodity and shipping costs have weighed on company operations and earnings. At the same time, new auto sales have hit the brakes, as consumers struggle amid fears about persistent inflation and a recession. According to the National Automobile Dealers Association, new car sales in the second quarter of 2022 are down more than 25% compared to the year before. Nevertheless, it’s not all doom and gloom in the automotive industry. Luxury cars and high-margin SUVs gained market share over cars in the first half of 2022, while electric vehicle (EV) sales rose 66% in the second quarter year over year.

After slow start Dutch driver has shown imperious calm and, backed by his masterful team, a second world title is imminent “It’s not going to spoil my day,” was Max Verstappen’s deadpan response when asked about the booing he received on the podium after victory at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. The Dutchman even wore a wry smile as he shrugged it off. As well he might, the rumble of discontent from Monza’s tifosi an insignificant background to the resounding success that has all but secured his second Formula One world championship. After a nail-biting conclusion to last season, when his contest with Lewis Hamilton went to the wire of that controversial decider in Abu Dhabi , this year could not stand in greater contrast. Verstappen has imposed himself on the championship, winning 11 races from 16 meetings. He leads Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 116 points and his Red Bull teammate Sergio Pérez by 125. There are six races left but he can wrap up the title at the next round in Singapore or, failing that, the one after in Japan.

FIA’s president Mohammed bin Sulayem under fire Italian GP grid was produced after more than three hours Senior figures in motor racing have expressed a widespread sense of fatigue and dissatisfaction among Formula One teams with the sport’s governing body, the FIA. What is seen as an increasingly fraught relationship between the teams and the FIA was exacerbated further at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, while the organisation’s president Mohammed bin Sulayem has been criticised for a failure of leadership. F1 is enjoying a huge surge in popularity at present but many within the sport are concerned that the FIA, which enforces its regulations, is proving to be more of hindrance than help to this growth. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen overcame a five-place grid penalty to win the Italian GP on Sunday in a highly strategic race as Ferrari let it slip on their home turf. Monégasque driver Charles Leclerc lined up on pole position having narrowly beaten Verstappen, who had a five-place grid penalty, which dropped him to seventh. Teammate Carlos Sainz finished third on Saturday, but a grid penalty saw him drop back to 18th. It was English driver George Russell who therefore lined-up next to Leclerc on the front row of the grid on Sunday. Leclerc comfortably held his lead off the grid, but the real danger was further back. By the first corner of the second lap, Verstappen had already made his way up to third. The reigning world champion clearly had pace, as he has in recent races. But this race was as much decided by strategic calls and tyre degradation as it was by raw pace. Leclerc saw an opportune moment to make an (almost) free stop under a virtual safety car, and took it. However, it was too early, and Verstappen could hugely extend his first stint, allowing to take the advantage of his increasingly distant title rival.
